In Search of an Ideal Organization

At start of my career my  brother once said to me –"There is no ideal job and there is no ideal organization". Most of us will agree with this statement and I am no exception.Starting my career as a young college boy, trying to grasp a foothold in media and then moving on to work with National TV channels and Radio before jumping to corporate world.

In fifteen years of professional journey  a Decade has gone by where I hardly got a moment to ponder on my brother word of advice. For past ten years I have been working  in an organization which has strong character deep rooted in its work culture and ethics.

On Ist November ,2017 I witnessed the  strong character of my company, NTPC. An unfortunate  and tragic accident occurred at Unchahar Plant which resulted in loss of  precious lives and injuries to employees and our associates . Shockwaves ran through the entire NTPC family  as the company faced its first major industrial accident. Within minutes of the accident the entire NTPC  Team rose to the  unfortunate incident. As the management  from Delhi rushed to the incident site ,a control room at Corporate Centre for the affected people  was set up  immediately to co-ordinate the airlifting and transfer of the affected patients to the best  hospitals in the Country . Family members of the affected people were provided immediate and swift logistical support .One nodal officer is attached to each patient apart from  Teams of HR, Medical and other departments being present in hospitals 24x7 . Various Teams are co-ordinating with state administration , hospital management and relatives of the patients  and are working tirelessly 24x7.Resources like lodging, food , transportation and manpower  have been dedicated by the company to not only its affected employees but to associates too.

Many employees from other plants and former employees have visited the Hospital  out of genuine concerns and solidarity to relatives of  patients affected by the tragedy.

An organization is known by its character  in times of crisis.  The unfortunate accident happened amidst NTPC's strict Safety  practices  has no doubt  left employees in grief and shock as these accidents are rare of the rarest unfortunate incidents ever happened in company  but at the same time each employee knows that NTPC is a  company that stands by its employees and their families and this is the very fabric that defines the character of our Organization which makes it no less than an ideal company to work for.

As NTPC Family we have all shared moments of Joy , Happiness and Celebrations together and as NTPC Family we all will overcome  this sorrow too and bounce back with renewed energy and power.
